S2Classic | Kenny Wallach
June 2018 Update: we meant to record an update about Kenny's time at Yeshiva in Jerusalem but ended up kicking around the idea of how to bridge the gap between sufferers and non-sufferers. How do we find the common ground between those who've been diagnosed and those who haven't? The answer is a trick - we all share the common development of human psyche and for people like Kenny, finding the higher purpose in life reigns supreme to the nomenclature of a mental health disorder. That being said, not everyone in our society is seeing self-care like that and as non-sufferers, we have to make it clear that there is space to discuss the topic of mental health and get to know some core experience that ties us together with our brothers and sisters who have been diagnosed.
Kenny’s story unfolds into three parts. His childhood, where his sister battled cancer and Kenny developed a fear of sleeping away from home that turned into deeper compulsive thoughts and eventually a formal OCD diagnosis. Post-college work where an entrepreneurial spirit drove him to reconnect with Sajeeb Saha, professionally known as Producer and DJ, Jai Wolf. Kenny ended up managing Sajeeb up until last August when he moved to Jerusalem to chase a spiritual journey that called him to study at Machon Yaakov Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Kenny is the quintessential example of how to flip mental illness on it’s head - into a strength, into your strength.
